Drowning Prevention & Awareness

Zoe (coach) and Liv (captain/ coach) during the last three weeks before the schools broke up for summer gave up their time to go and talk to over 4,000 Pupils from aged 7-16 years in primary and high schools all about keeping their self safe around water.

The talks were about understanding how to be safe around water including where to go and where not to go such as river banks. They educated people on our seas by teaching what different flags mean and where to be cautious. They spoke on what to do if their self or someone else was in trouble in water with interactions of teaching treading water and floats. They also had fun by dressing up pupils in club swim gear such as caps, goggles, fins, snorkels and more. They also finished it off with a stay safe quiz to test what they had learned and to make sure that they took in the information that they were given.

Liv and Zoe came up with the idea to do this as the number of people drowning and getting into trouble in water rapidly rose between the summer of 2021 to 2023. The aim was to create change in peoples mindsets around water and as we know as swimmers our self its super fun to swim but to do it in a safe and controlled environment rather than a lake or river with no lifeguard.
