FAQs
-
How much does it cost?
Fees are collected monthly, and as a non-profit club we only charge what it costs for the swimmer’s respective squad’s pool time. The cost is worked out for the year and includes site closures, holidays and park race days. Any session cancellations from the club will be refunded.
-
What do I need to bring to training?
A bottle of water importantly, to stay hydrated so that we can complete the session. Training aids are also important to get the most out of our practice.
Kickboards, pullbuoys, fins, paddles and snorkles are beneficial to the development of swimmers. Goggles and caps are needed to protect our eyes and manage our hair.
-
Where do you train?
We are located at Aspire @The Park, Pontefract. We advise that if you are attending please set off early as traffic and parking can be problematic.
-
Do I need to wear a swim cap?
We encourage all swimmers to wear swimming caps to practice.
Wearing swimming caps will decrease hair damage from the chlorinated water, keep long hair together, and the swimmer will get used to putting a cap on without breaking it. It wont feel as uncomfortable and acts are part of a uniform which looks professional.
Caps are only compulsory for swimmers with hair long enough, that it could potentially cover their eyes. This is for health and safety. Removal of caps will be at the discretion of the coach depending on the situation. Excuses such as “they are too tight” or “i can keep my hair in a bobble” will not be accepted.
-
Do you compete?
Yes we are a competitive club. We encourage all swimmers, no matter what their ability, to take part in internal and external galas.
Competing is a great way to socialize with team mates, build confidence, earn rewards and demonstrate skills that you have practiced for countless hours.
We hold internal galas for club swimmers only which is scored in a league format. We travel to external galas with many other clubs that participate (in areas such as, Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster and Scarborough.). We enter any swimmers who have achieved Qualifying Times for County and Regional Championships.
-
How many sessions does a swimmer need to attend?
We ask that you attend as many of the session possible provided for their squad.
This is to achieve the most gains possible from training. 100% attendance is not compulsory, however if coaches feel a swimmer’s absence is effecting negatively on their progression, and the rest of the squad are developing, we will ask for their space to be given up for another swimmer to take.
We have plenty of individuals wanting to join/move squads in the club, therefore we can not let available space go to waste.
-
Can I video record my child swimming?
Unfortunately not due to the site’s safeguarding policy. However there is an exception for those who need footage for educational purposes. You will need to speak to a site manager, in which you should be given a permission form to complete.
Then come back to us for permission as we may have swimmers in the water who has signed to not be involved with photography and filming.

How can I/my swimmer improve?
Attend as many sessions and possible. Listen carefully to your coach’s instructions and feedback, absorb and retain the info and utilize whenever you are swimming.
Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback.
Swimmers who would like to improve enough to compete at potentially national level or above, please speak to you coach, as although we are capable of producing swimmers to the top ranks of counties and regionals, to swim at the higher level of competition and have even more opportunities to race at that level, more hours practicing in the pool is required. We have many links and contacts with other teams close by who have produced national and international level swimmers.
We can discuss with yourselves the best pathway and approach.
Most importantly, make sure you enjoy it! Make sure you stay motivated and enjoy your time. We value retention and enjoyment, we never want swimmers to fall out of love with the sport.
